Galway Races is delighted to announce that a total of €8,442 was generated for Atlantic Technological University (ATU) following our highly successful Student Raceday, held on Monday, 27th October, at Ballybrit Racecourse.

The event welcomed over 7,000 students to the racecourse and once again proved to be a major highlight of the Galway Races calendar. Student Raceday continues to grow in popularity year on year, combining the excitement of racing with a vibrant student atmosphere.

Galway Races was particularly pleased to welcome Atlantic Technological University on board for the first time as part of this year’s event. ATU’s Student Union Charity of the Year is the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI), a charity that is well known and highly regarded at Ballybrit Racecourse. ATU has generously donated the full €8,442 raised on the day to NBCRI, supporting its vital work in funding world-class breast cancer research and improving outcomes for patients and families across Ireland.

Speaking about the event, Michael Moloney, CEO of the Galway Races, said that Student Raceday continues to play an important role in engaging with the student community while also giving back through charitable initiatives.

“Student Raceday is always one of the highlights of our racing year, and the atmosphere at Ballybrit this October was exceptional. We were delighted to welcome over 7,000 students and to partner with Atlantic Technological University for the first time. To see such a significant contribution being made to such a deserving charity is something we are extremely proud of.”

Commenting on the donation, ATU Students’ Union President Thomas Gallagher said “The partnership with Galway Races has delivered a hugely positive outcome for the university’s chosen charity. Our Charity of the Year is the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, and we are thrilled to be able to donate €8,442 to support their vital work. The Student Raceday gave our students a fantastic experience while also allowing them to contribute to a cause that has touched so many lives. We are very grateful to Galway Races for their support and collaboration”

Welcoming the donation, Louise McCarron, Fundraising Manager for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute highlighted the impact that funds raised through community events have on their work.

“We are sincerely thankful to Galway Races and Atlantic Technological University for this generous donation. Support like this enables us to continue funding innovative breast cancer research and brings us closer to improving outcomes for patients and families.”

Galway Races looks forward to building on this partnership with ATU in the years ahead and continuing to support meaningful charitable causes through our racing events, such as Student Raceday.
