Race in Pink for Breast Cancer Research

It’s back! Race in Pink, one of the highlights of the Galway Races October Festival held in support of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute has returned this year and takes place on Sunday, October 24th. The National Breast Cancer Research Institute is an Irish charity that raises funds in support of the breast cancer research team lead by Professor Michael Kerin based at the Lambe Institute, NUI Galway.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Director of Research at the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, Professor Michael Kerin said,

The Research team at the Lambe Institute and the board of the charity are delighted with the support from the Galway Race Committee and the opportunity to raise funds at this great event. We are also deeply grateful to our sponsors, volunteers and the enormous community support and goodwill, which make events like this successful. Research outputs are at the epicentre of all cancer programmes and here at NUI Galway, the breast cancer research programme at the Lambe Institute supports a large bio bank, molecular research lab, clinical trials programme and new technology development. These programmes all lead to better outcomes and couldn’t happen without events like Race in Pink and we are very grateful for the continued support of the Galway Races.”

Commenting on this year’s ‘Race in Pink’ fundraising event, Michael Moloney Chief Executive of Galway Racecourse said,

“We’re really delighted to be welcoming The National Breast Cancer Research Institute back to Ballybrit for our October Festival at the end of the month. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, this event and helping raise much needed funds for the charity is very important to us. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone for their support this year, we’ve greatly appreciated it. Galway Racecourse holds a very special place in people’s hearts, and we’ve never heard it more that the last year, so thank you. Our brand values of the love of horse racing, friendships, community, family and fun, feed every decision we make and the things we do here in Ballybrit. We are delighted to now present our three-day October Festival to all our supporters and race goers. We’re looking forward to some cracking racing and our passion project, the ‘Race in Pink’ day’. Lots to look forward to!”.

The team at Galway Racecourse have put together a fantastic hospitality package to create a fun-filled day for those attending. Guests will experience the ultimate day at the races with panoramic views of the racetrack from the iconic Killanin Stand while enjoying a drinks reception followed by a delicious four course lunch with wine. There will be plenty of entertainment with prizes galore, plus a best dressed competition for ladies and gents sponsored Anthony Ryans. As part of the day the draw will also take place for the charity’s annual ‘Win a BMW’ fundraiser and a celebrity tipster will help you be a “Winner Alright”! But the real winner will be the charity as it’s hoped the event will raise significant funds for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.
